United Senior Action (USA), Indiana's independent statewide senior citizens political action organization, has endorsed Terri Austin for re-election to the Indiana House of Representatives.
United Senior Action endorses a limited number of legislative candidates based on responses to a candidates' questionnaire and on their record as legislators on issues of importance to older Hoosiers. The endorsements are made on a non-partisan basis, with candidates of both parties endorsed strictly on the basis of their stance on key issues. Central issues for United Senior Action in making this year's endorsements were long term care reform, nursing home quality and affordable prescription drugs.
"We are pleased to endorse Representative Austin based upon her commitment to issues of importance to older Hoosiers and their families," said Michelle Niemier, Executive Director of United Senior Action. We look forward to her re-election and to working with her toward solutions during the 2007 legislative session.
"This is a critical endorsement," said Austin. "I am honored to have earned the members' support. I pledge to continue to support those issues that will help our senior citizens and their families and improve their quality of life."
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB - Indiana) SAFE Trust Advisory Committee announced their endorsement of Representative Terri Austin in the race for House District 36.
Jason Shelley, State Director of NFIB announced the endorsement.
"This is an important election for NFIB, for Indiana's job creators and most importantly for small business," said Shelley. "Austin's endorsement is based on her pro-small business voting record and the fact that she understands the day-to-day presssures facing small business. "
"Austin has been a steadfast supporter of NFIB and its agenda promoting affordable health care, lower taxes, tort reform and the elimination of burdensome regulations," he continued.
"I am honored to have earned this endorsement from NFIB," said Austin. "I believe small business is the backbone of our Indiana economy. I am looking foward to continuing to sponsor legislation that will protect and assist NFIB members and the companies they have created."

Indiana Farm Bureau Inc., Elect Endorses Austin
State Representative Terri Austin announced the recent and important backing of two important organizations in her race to again represent the residents of portions of Madison and Hamilton Counties in the next General Assembly.
Indiana Farm Bureau Elect and the Madison County Farm Bureau have both informed the state legislator that they will be supporting her re-election efforts, based largely on her strong work in the statehouse.
"The farming and agricultural communities have always known that I will support and put forth legislation that will enrich our state in a positive way," Austin said. "It is truly an honor to have their sincere support and trust in the coming days of this crucial election. If the people of this district choose to support me again, I plan to continue working on innovative ways that will make our local economy grow -- to the benefit of all industries in the region."
"Terri Austin has worked tirelessly in the statehouse on important issues vital to the local economy; particularly on issues affecting agriculture, small business and property owners," said Pete Hanebutt, Political Education Director. "Terri authored the Small Business Regulation Flexibility bill which pushed for relief to small business owners. She was also able to secure a pilot tax abatement for the I-69 corridor, ensuring the Madison County community receives a head-start on future economic development and growth. In 2005, she was co-author on the Clean Water Indiana bill that allocated state funds to protect and improve Indiana's streams, rivers and waterways and helped to bring new federal dollars to the state."
Austin indicated that in the next session, she'll work to take the lead on bringing broadband and telecommunications services to rural and underserved areas.
"I believe rural access to broadband will become more critical in the next 3-5 years. Unfortunately, while technology infrastructure has dramatically increased in suburban and urban areas, only 17 percent of rural households subscribe," Austin reported. "The farming and trade in the agricultural community is now a world-wide business. Access to broadband is fundamental to their participation in the global economy. I want to see Indiana become #1 in the nation in our ability to provide broadband to urban, suburban and rural areas."
.
"I am proud to be joined by like-minded friends in my re-election campaign," Austin finished. "I realize fully that we have a lot to do in this district before we can achieve the results that we can truly rely on. I have been working hard and will continue to do so, but the hardest part is not over on Election Day. I appreciate all of the great people that have helped me to this point and I am ready for the coming days ahead."
